Our goal as Catechist is to grow and share our Faith with others. We are challenged to do this with our growing numbers of young Catholics in our church family. We must provide a safe, accessible and adequate site to do this. We have enthused, knowledgable and willing adults teaching our youth under less then ideal circumstances.
Our adults and young adults need to continue to grow in their Faith. This would be better accomplished by providing a comfortable and resourceful site for them to study and meet in.”
The kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in a field which someone has found; he hides it again, goes off in his joy, sells everything he owns and buys the field. (Matthew 13:44)
Each year that I teach the Catechism I gain a deeper appreciation for the beauty and wisdom contained within the Catholic faith. It is a treasure that is too valuable to remain buried in the basement of the church or in the corners of the multipurpose building. I believe our level of commitment is a visible witness to our youth and community as to the value we place on this treasure.
Sharing a class room in the MPB is not an ideal teaching condition for the 7th and 8th graders. We try to do fun activities and group work to keep everyone engaged. Having our own space would keep us from distracting other classes.
I think it is important for the youth of our parish to have a place of their own to gather. This place will allow them to feel some ownership and an additional sense of pride in their parish. It can be a place for education, for meetings, and for socializing. Through working with the Confirmation students for the last several years, it has really come to my attention that the students who are that age need a classroom to call their own and a place to just hang out sometimes–to gather informally to socialize or to work on service activities. These are all important items in regard to developing the religious lives of the young people in our parish.
New entry ways to help our students get to CCD classes safely and a bigger classroom will accomidate not only to our ever growing numbers but to our increase in keeping learning hands on and fun!
